Obecure Receives Permission from Canada for Clinical Trial

Obecure, a member of the Bio-Light group, has received the approval of the Canadian health authorities to conduct a short clinical trial on the drug it is developing for weight management. This trial accompanies the ongoing clinical development of the drug in the United States.

The Canadian trial, which is set to begin this month will be conducted by the Biovail Company and will include volunteers who will receive the drug in doses similar to those planned in Phase II trials in the United States.

Dr. Yaffa Beck, CEO of Obecure said: “We are pleased with Obecure's progress in the development of our obesity treatment as well as the response of the regulatory agencies. The approval that we have received from the Canadian authorities brings us one step closer to completing the clinical development of our treatment.”

Obecure is developing a drug for the treatment of obesity and weight management. In light of the safety of the drug, which has been in use for decades for the treatment of another condition - vertigo - by millions of patients, it has been permitted to skip Phase I trials in the United States and is currently preparing to apply for permission from the FDA to begin Phase 2 trials on obese Americans.
